Twins is the result of Montes winemakers Aurelio Montes Sr. and son Aurelio Montes Jr. self imposed challenge to create a unique wine. Not agreeing on the blend after hours of discussions, father and son decided to create their own wine. Surprisingly, they did agree that blending together what each had separately crafted would create a superb wine, the result of perfect team work of winemakers and grape varieties each adding up to a wine greater than the sum of its parts. The vineyards are located in the Colchagua Valley. Their soils are derived from granite in differing stages of decomposition, with extensive areas with moderate depths of red clay, and little organic matter. This type of soils has stones at depth and alluvial sediments, which provides limited capacity for moisture retention.

Harvest Note
The 2018–19 season began with a mild winter and moderate rainfall, followed by a cool, rainy spring that allowed us to begin irrigating later in the season. We were able to store more water than expected for the summer months. Towards December the weather stabilized, reaching normal maximum temperatures for that time of the year, with 54ºF the minimum and close to 82ºF the maximum. The warm temperatures stayed around in January and continued through February, but they gave way to a chillier March, with cool mornings and evenings, which helped maintain the natural acidity of the white varieties, while also helping to protect their aromas. No rain fell during ripening or harvest, which resulted in good phytosanitary conditions and excellent physical-chemical values.
Tasting Note
Montes Twins is loaded with aromas of red and black fruit, sweet spices and bitter chocolate. The wine is creamy, youthful and easy to drink.

About the Grape

Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is adaptable to various growing conditions, and is known for its low yield and late ripeness. It generally produces full-bodied wines with substantial acidity and tannins.
Carmenère
Carmenère has spicy red berry aromas and black plum flavors, with a pronounced leafy and green bell pepper edge, and notes of grilled meat and coffee.
Syrah
Syrah has seductively dense, rich, chewy black berry aromas and flavors, with notes of tar, wood smoke, bacon, leather, chocolate, and sometimes violets. The tannins are firm yet elegant.
Tempranillo
Tempranillo makes dark wines that are lush and seductive, with intense aromas and flavors of black cherry, raspberry and currant, with plum and tobacco notes. Lighter wines show complex red fruits.
