Montes Alpha M comes from Montes' Finca Apalta Estate vineyard in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The granitic soil of the Apalta estate boasts incredible diversity, ranging from fluvial to glacial, and varied in the clay content, depth, and amount of organic matter. Some zones are influenced by the Tinguiririca River while others are marked by mudslides and the detachment of material from high above in the mountain chain that delimits the valley. One of Chile's most celebrated wines, Alpha M is extremely limited in production, from low yielding blocks in the upper, mountainous sections of the vineyards with thin soils. Rigorous berry selection further intensifies this remarkable wine.

Harvest Note
After a relatively dry winter with rains falling in concentrated bursts—around 11.8 inches at the Apalta estate and about 7.9 inches in Marchigüe—well-managed water resources allowed the vineyards to thrive without stress until harvest. Budburst and fruit set occurred on time and as expected, with no spring frost, ensuring a high-quality grape yield. After veraison, significant rain fell in the Central Region, requiring extensive vineyard work to quickly ventilate and dry the fruit. Prompt action ensured the harvest of healthy, superior-quality grapes. Following February’s rains, March was notably cool and cloudy, which delayed ripening and resulted in fruit with excellent concentration of color and aromas. Harvesting began two weeks later than the previous year and ended ten days later, making this one of the freshest harvests in recent years.
Tasting Note
The wine showcases a deep carmine-red color. The aromas are abundant and well-balanced, highlighting ripe red berries like strawberry and raspberry, along with hints of candy, preserves, and sweet spices. Additional notes of tobacco, well-integrated toast, dried fruits, and subtle dairy undertones are also present. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet balanced, complex, and elegant, with a remarkable finish.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with roast turkey, beef filet, sherried kidneys, duck confit.
