Montes Classic Series Malbec originates from the Apalta and El Arcángel del Marchigüe vineyards in the Colchagua Valley. Deep red with a violet hue, this wine portrays aromas of black and red berries with notes of prunes and crème de cassis. Due to being stored in French oak for 10 months, it also has hints of chocolate, jam and vanilla intertwined with the fruit.

Harvest Note
In terms of precipitation, the 2017 winter was rather more favorable than in prior years, with total accumulation exceeding 19.7 inches in the Colchagua Valley, making it the rainiest year in the last decade. This allowed us to have a good amount of water in our soils and reservoirs, ensuring the optimal development of our plants during all their phenological stages before arriving comfortably at harvest. During spring there were a few minor episodes of frost through mid-November, which meant a delay in bud break and flowering of a few weeks. Summer had moderate temperatures, with January averaging 82º F. February saw a notable dip in nighttime temperatures, again delaying the ripening of some of the red and white varieties. Although we began the harvest on similar dates as in 2017, this year we couldn’t wait longer for the optimal ripening of the fruit, extending the harvest through the first week of May, 10 days later than last year. There was no precipitation during harvest, so the fruit arrived for processing at the winery in very good condition.
Tasting Note
The nose is dominated by black berries, aromas of latte coffee and an interesting floral component. The palate is balanced and with a long finish.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with red meat, charcuteria, and cheeses.
