This wine opens with black cherry, red currant, field herbs and dried white flowers on the nose. On the palate taut, floral-laced black fruit takes center stage while revealing an underlying structure of grippy tannins buttressed by a handful of red fruit. This wine would benefit from more time in the bottle. Drink from 2025 onwards.

Owned by Beaune producer Louis Jadot, this estate produces some fine wines. Ripe black fruits and layers of tannins show that this is still developing into a ripe, floral wine. The wine is full, packed with fruit and structure.

This dark ruby colored Gamay from the Fleurie commune opens with red plum and forest floor bouquet with hints of gentle strawberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and easy to drink. The flavor profile is strawberry and red plum blend with notes of chalky minerality and loam. I also detected hints of oak and black raspberry in the mix. The finish is dry, and its flavors and earthy tannins linger and last for quite some time. I would pair this Fleurie with stuffed red bell peppers. Enjoy – Ken

Aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries, plums and licorice preface the 2020 Fleurie from the Château des Jacques, a medium-bodied, rich and concentrated wine with tangy acids, powdery tannins and a nicely balanced profile. It’s a blend of around three-quarters lieu-dit Bel-Air and one-quarter Grille Midi.

Dark ruby. Pungent aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry pit and licorice, along with a floral nuance that builds as the wine stretches out. Lush bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors are supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Shows gently firming grip on a nicely persistent finish that features dusty tannins and a hint of spiciness.
