Located in the Maremma region of Tuscany, Poggio al Lupo is a great estate that spans 115 acres (35 which are planted). In 1999, Antonio Moretti purchased the property for its beautiful coastal terroir that features pockets of soil rich in clay and others rich in gravel and fine stones. The principal Poggio al Lupo vineyard is a southerly hillside vineyard rising 330 feet above sea level. Grapes were hand harvested and during fermentation, the wine macerated for 25 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine aged 18 months in 100% new French Allier barriques and 6 months in the bottle before release.

Harvest Note
The vineyards of Poggio al Lupo have resumed their harmonious vegetation after a mild winter, cooled by sea and inland winds. The Tuscan Maremma soon reached significant temperatures, among the warmest in the region. Poggio al Lupo enjoys a privileged position, constantly invested by Mediterranean breezes and intense light, the estate is also entirely surrounded by woods and wild vegetation that naturally lower the excess heat, defending the grapes and restoring balance to the vineyards. In the final part of the season, the soft sun warmed the skeleton-rich soils during the day, which cool off at night, stimulating aromatic synthesis in the grapes and bringing them to even ripeness.
Tasting Note
Intense ruby red with garnet hues. Notes of blood orange and sour cherry with spicy hints and a diffused brushwood taste. Long, and distinctively savory finish.
Food Pairing
Enjoy with game, red meat, aged cheeses
