A historic vineyard, the Prieuré de Montézargues was originally a monastery dating from 1199. The vineyard is a single 84-acre parcel and is sheltered from the Mistral wind by the Montagne Noire mountain range. The original stone priory buildings blend seamlessly into the landscape, forming a micro-terroir and the unique personality of the Montézargues estate wines. This micro-terroir is composed of sandy soils coved by a layer of ‘galets’ - large, round, well-worn stones that were carried down from the Alps by glaciers during the last ice age. Grapes are hand-harvested early in the morning and carefully sorted. The grapes undergo direct pressing in a pneumatic press for three hours. After fermentation at a low temperature, the wine is blended and aged on fine lees for four months in stainless steel vats.

Harvest Note
The 2023 vintage began with a dry and mild winter followed by a wet spring that allowed the vines to withstand the summer season without high water stress. Despite temperatures increasing all summer long, the harvest started late. The grapes were of remarkable quality and quantity, particularly the Grenache grapes that gave rise to fruity and balanced wines with moderate alcoholic strength.
Tasting Note
A bright cherry pink, this Tavel rosé shows aromas of yellow peach, red currant and blood orange. On the palate, this medium to full bodied wine has notes of cherry and Sicilian orange with sweet touches of almond and pastry cream. It has a long and elegant finish.
Food Pairing
Seared tuna, grilled fish, tomato salad

About the Grape

Cinsaut
Ripe and meaty over elegant, with rose and almond notes, Cinsault’s relatively low tannins typically relegate it to blends with other varieties, as with Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel Rosé.
Clairette
Vinified carefully, Clairette produces a light, floral and fruity wine. Used in sparkling wine and in blends, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel Rosé, Côtes-du-Rhône and Lirac.
Grenache
Grenache is loaded with dense, lusty aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackcurrant, jam, pepper and licorice, with a palate-coating texture and high alcohol.
Grenache Blanc
This grape can produce an attractive, fleshy, generously fruity wine with a fragrance of flowers and dill.
Syrah
Syrah has seductively dense, rich, chewy black berry aromas and flavors, with notes of tar, wood smoke, bacon, leather, chocolate, and sometimes violets. The tannins are firm yet elegant.
